What makes a Great Leather Strop? A great strop is a strop that will give you the sharpest edge for shaving. After this, everything else is just aesthetics. Strops come down to two basic components: MATERIAL and HARDWARE. We carry strops for the entry level, intermediate and expert shavers.

Below is a list of the top 4 stropping materials:

  1. Cordovan Equine Leather (Horse Hide)
  2. Kangaroo Leather
  3. English Bridle (Cow Leather)
  4. Oil Stone Rubbed (Cow Leather)

Why Cloth Strops? A cloth strop is actually a prep strop. Cloth strops prepare your blade for final stropping on a leather strop. Cloth strops are often attached as a secondary option to a leather strop. These strops provide a bit more draw (friction/grit) than the smoother leather surface. Cloth strops can be impregnated with compounds to increase their sharpening ability.

Below is a list of the top 3 cloth stropping materials:

  1. Our Custom Black Wooven Canvas
  2. Our 3/8" Hard Pressed Felt
  3. White Woven Nylon

So if you are considering straight razor shaving or are looking for a gift for someone who has never straight razor shaved before, this is the place to start.

*Caution: Avoid Latigo Strops due to the tanning process involved,
which renders the leather's natural stropping qualities useless.
